Kemira, a chemical company, had three challenges for the design and construction of their new maintenance facility in their north St. Louis industrial plant location. The first was to improve employee safety, the second was to improve security for the plant, and the third was to combine some of their plant office and maintenance functions for a more efficient operation.
We used a design-build approach to deliver this project within limited budget and staff resources. We were able to help Kemira improve employee safety through the design and construction of locker rooms and changing facilities so employees can change into the proper clothing and PPE prior to entering the plant site.
Security was improved by providing a secure sally port type entry procedure, whereby visitors can be checked in while making daily truck access more efficient yet secure. Finally, several existing plant operations were combined, allowing Kemira to consolidate their plant operations managers, as well as their parts storage inventory and maintenance functions. Together, we were able to maximize efficiency, minimize expense and control risk for Kemira. Making the chemicals they work with a little less dangerous.
